Photography, Modern Architecture and Design

Co-translation of the exhibition catalogue Photographie et architecture moderne
Presses polytechniques et universitaires romandes, Lausanne, 2005

This publication accompanied an exhibition of photographs from the Alberto Sartoris collection and furniture from the Vitra Design Museum. An architect and propagandist of the modern movement, Alberto Sartoris (1901-1998) assembled an impressive corpus of photographs, taken by renowned individuals and agencies, that document modern architectural works by over five hundred architects and designers from around the globe, including Le Corbusier and Luis Barragán. The catalogue highlights the mechanisms behind the creation and dissemination of the “image of modern architecture” and the decisive role played by photography in that process.
