A.C.R. Grønland

Translation of the introductory essay, “A transposed world,” by Daniel Chartier
Imagoborealis series, Presses de l’Université du Québec, 2009

This collection of photographs is taken from an album that was purchased from an antique dealer in Copenhagen. It illustrates a personal yet anonymous journey to Greenland, the gold-embossed notation on the album cover reading “Nr.3. A.C.R. Grønland.” The images in the leather volume―their arrangement, and the people and settings they show―tell a story that does not exist in words. The ordinary images in this book provide an extraordinary window onto a private and mysterious world of a lost North.
